OUR STORY

Occupying a site previously owned by Washington Merritt Singer, the school moved to the estate in 1955 following a fire at its founding location in Potters Bar, Kent. It began as Northaw back in 1881 where it originally educated just boys, among them a future Prime Minister, Clement Attlee. It was renamed in 1995 as Norman Court Preparatory school and provided an inspirational education for hundreds of girls and boys, many of whom gained awards and scholarships to local senior schools. Sadly in 2012 the school, like many other businesses at the time effected by a tough economic climate, had to close its doors for what was thought the last time.

However, after a change of ownership, Norman Court Montessori Day Nursery opened in Sept 2013 for children aged 6 months to 5 years. The Infants and Junior School followed a year later in September 2014 welcoming children from the nursery and wider community.

Today, Norman Court School is thriving and offers a contemporary education in a traditional setting to children of all ages.

Norman Court: for an adventurous and character-building education

Set in an elegant Grade 2 listed manor house, Norman Court Independent School nestles amidst 45 acres of beautiful woodland and countryside on the Hampshire/Wiltshire border. Open space is at a premium and it provides the perfect setting for boys and girls to learn in a safe, inspirational environment.

Benefitting from the effective early years work of our Montessori Nursery, the independent school educates the whole child in a family atmosphere by offering academic rigour, combined with a wide variety of learning opportunities. Caring, professional staff encourage the children to have a go at everything and more often than not, they rise to the occasion. The uniqueness of every child is widely celebrated making for a supportive, caring community.

The development of character is central to all we do and the pupils are taught to see value in approaching all tasks with a positive and determined attitude.

Aware of the increasing time demands on working parents, the school offers flexibility of provision and helps with transport where possibility. Local minibus routes are provided from a range of local sites and additional child care is available before school, after school and throughout all school holidays bar a week at Christmas!

School fees are set at a very competitive rate and offer excellent value. Additional ‘early starter’ discounts are available to families considering the Senior School.

School should be an adventure, full of new experiences, a happy place to learn and be inspired. Come and see how we could make a real difference to your child’s early and formative years.
